The Gates Intermediate School has served Scituate well for almost one hundred years. However, in its current condition and design, it cannot meet the needs of a 21st Century education for the children of Scituate. After exploring several different options and conducting multiple public meetings to solicit feedback, the School Building Committee recommended to the Massachusetts Schools Building Authority (MSBA) that a new Grade 6 – 8 Middle School be located on the campus of the Scituate High School. On July 30, 2014 the MSBA unanimously approved this plan and allowed the District to enter into the Schematic Design Phase. The School Building Committee, along with its project team of Daedalus Projects and Dore and Whittier Architects, submitted the Schematic Design Report to the MSBA on October 2, 2014. The Project was unanimously approved by the MSBA Board of Directors at their November 19, 2014 meeting. This approval allowed the Scituate Middle School Building Project to be presented for vote at a Special Town Meeting on December 3, 2014 and a debt exclusion vote to approve funding on January 10, 2015. Thank you Scituate for your support! We will now move forward with the design and construction of the new Scituate Middle School Building Project.
